Global Cultural Competency Workshop (Part 1)
May 14 - 10am-12pm
Many coaches believe that cultural competency is simply about awareness; however, it is only part of the journey. Cultural competency goes beyond awareness into how we perceive, interpret, and engage across differences. We all carry cultural perspectives that shape our coaching presence, often unconsciously. In coaching, these dynamics influence trust, connection, and effectiveness. Developing cultural competency is not a one-time skill, but an ongoing practice that strengthens our ability to create inclusive, respectful, and impactful coaching spaces.
This workshop introduces key concepts of cultural competency in coaching. Participants will explore cultural knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity; reflect on their own cultural perspectives; and develop greater cultural proficiency in their coaching practice.
Learning outcomes include:
• Understand key concepts of cultural competency in coaching
• Differentiate between cultural knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity
• Identify the six stages of cultural competency and their application in practice
• Define intercultural communication and its role in effective coaching

About our Facilitator:
Dr. Jennifer Koster is the DEIB Engagement Manager at the International Coaching Federation, where she leads global engagement strategies, supports member resource groups across regions, and develops inclusive learning experiences that reflect the evolving needs of the coaching profession. She works closely with the VP of DEIB, to build alignment and expand programming that fosters equity, access, and belonging. With a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, an ACC credential, and a background in higher education, Jen brings clarity, strategy, and a touch of humor to every project—whether she’s designing a course, managing engagement, or making complex concepts actually make sense. In addition to my education, I spent many years working in the business sector in various roles in the banking, collections, and non-profit sectors. This work led to me teaching business courses later on. In 2014, I took a huge leap of faith to start a full-time college teaching career. I returned to my high school and started teaching at the secondary level. Career change doesn’t have to be scary–it is refreshing (and I would know!).
