Understanding the Shared Language of Coaching

Objectives:

This presentation will share an understanding of the evolution of a common language of coaching as it has been developed by the International Coach Federation, the history and practice of the core competencies and the addition of behavioral markers.

We will have an opportunity to practice "the beginners mind" as we look at these core principles in the most current interpretation.  This will be an experiential presentation where participants will have an opportunity to experience a demonstration of the competencies and have the opportunity to practice their own skills.  The intention is to learn from each other as we share the wisdom that each on brings to this workshop.   

What to expect to take away from the presentation:

  • A deeper understanding of the value of a shared language in coaching and the PCC markers.  
  • Ideas on how to integrate the Core Competencies into your own coaching conversations.
  • Observation of a coaching conversation using the Core Competencies
  • Practice demonstrating the PCC markers
  • Conversation to share ideas and wisdom between participants.

About the Presenter: 

Julie Shows, Master Certified Coach, is the founder of The Coaching Connection, a leadership and executive coaching business.  Over the past 15 years she has worked with leaders in organizations and has worked in the training of coaches as well as mentoring coaches who are applying for credentials. Julie received her master coach credential in 2000 and has successfully renewed that credential every 3 years.  She has received certifications from Georgetown University Leadership Coaching Program, Success Unlimited Network and Invite Change.  

Julie has been part of the faculty at the Georgetown University Leadership Coaching Program since 2002.  She served as Program Director from 2010 -2014 and is currently Training Director. She has been instrumental in introducing the PCC markers into the curriculum and assessment process. 

Julie has been a volunteer on the assessment team for ICF PCC/MCC assessor team for over 10 years.  In 2014 she was one of the trainers asked to learn the behavioral markers for ICF and currently delivers that training for both ICF and in the Georgetown Leadership Coaching Program.

Julie moved from Washington DC 14 years ago and now lives in central Florida. She enjoys golf, yoga and spending time with friends both at home and around the world.
